Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (SSI)
The Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (SSI) was founded in 1990 and currently has around 380 members. As a professional society for infectious disease specialists in Switzerland, it is committed to ensuring high-quality, ethically responsible, and economically viable care for patients with infectious diseases. Respect, compassion, and patient well-being are at the core of its mission.
SSI defines and regulates specialist training in infectious diseases, promotes continuous professional development, and supports scientific expertise in the field. It fosters teaching, research, and clinical practice in infectious diseases and advocates for innovative treatment strategies.
SSI represents the interests of infectious disease specialists practicing in Switzerland in dealings with policymakers, educational institutions, and the healthcare industry. It actively participates in health policy discussions and advocates for evidence-based decision-making in healthcare. Additionally, SSI maintains close relationships with related professional societies, including the Swiss Society for Hospital Hygiene (SSHH), the Swiss Society for Tropical and Travel Medicine (SSTTM), and the Swiss Society for Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (SSTMP). It is also a member of national and international scientific organizations.
In September 2024, IMK AG took over the general secretariat of SSI to further professionalize its organizational structures and ease the administrative burden on both members and the board. Sandra Caduff serves as the Secretary-General of SSI and acts as the primary contact person for the society.
